I am an experienced and qualified foreign language teacher educated in linguistics and humanities and still studying towards self-improvement. I have taught English and Spanish to groups and individual students for over 12 years. I have studied or am self-taught in several languages as well.
All the above makes me perfectly aware of the difficulties learners face when acquiring a foreign language and capable of devising tailored solutions adjusted to an individual student’s needs. I have also taught Pronunciation and Phonetics and Phonology courses.
Embarking upon such a rewarding enterprise as learning a foreign language can open up a whole new world and allow you to encounter new ways of looking at life and people. Besides, it’s just a great thing to do!
I am skilled at teaching not only general English but also English for Specific Purposes (business, medical, etc.) and phonetics and pronunciation. Moreover, I am experienced in course design and have taught Spanish as a foreign language.
Some friends have dubbed me a certificate collector. I have studied for and successfully obtained 8 language certificates in 4 different languages at different levels. This - alongside professional training - has given me a practical insight into the ins and outs of language testing.
As a teacher, I have prepared students for language exams (Cambridge and TOEFL). I have taken teacher training courses on the IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC examinations, accredited by the British Council, ETS and Capman Testing Solutions.
Currently I collaborate as an interlocutor and assessor of the speaking paper of the Instituto Cervantes DELE exams.
While some people may sound better or more native-like when speaking English, it is making yourself understood that’s paramount when communicating with foreigners. So although you do not have to seek a perfect accent, if your mother tongue has a phonological system different to that of the target language, you may want to make some adjustments to the way you produce sounds in order to render the communication process easier.
Combining theoretical knowledge with experience, I can provide assessment, personalised working plans and private or group practice sessions tailored to anybody’s needs when it comes to improving their pronunciation.
